Obituary

Born March 16, 1949, Reginald "Rusty" Hillmon was the oldest of three sons born to Ola Mae and George Hillmon, Jr.  Rusty was born in Austin, Texas. He attended Corpus Christi public schools and graduated from Solomon Melvin Coles High School as Valedictorian of his class in 1967. He attended Texas A&I University (TAMU) and Huston-Tillotson University before graduating from Texas Southern University in 1978. He earned Bachelor's Degrees in Computer Science and Mathematics. He was a member of the Methodist Church in Houston, Texas.

As an enthusiastic athlete, Rusty played football, basketball, and tennis. He also participated in track and field events. Rusty loved swimming and scuba diving. Some of his hobbies included playing darts, dancing, and listening to music.

In the New King James Version of the Bible, Proverbs, Chapter 15, Verse 15, states the following: "The heart of the prudent acquires knowledge, And the ear of the wise seeks knowledge". Most interpretations of this verse describe a person who is naturally intelligent and seeks more knowledge throughout his lifetime. This verse epitomizes Rusty's natural talents. For those of us who knew Rusty well, we can attest to his innate level of intelligence and his mathematical genius. As a software engineer, he designed the programs that supported the electrical systems for many automobiles. His job was technically complex and difficult for most of us to comprehend. Yet, Rusty possessed the skills to explain the complexities to the unknowing.

Rusty is preceded in death by his parents, Ola Mae (Pinkie) and George Jr.; his wife, Gunnel Eva Hillmon; his youngest brother, George Hillmon III and a sister, Bobbie Randall Curtis.

Those left to mourn his loss are his daughter, Sara Hillmon (Ian); his son, Sam Hillmon; his brother, Thurston Hillmon Sr. (Liz),;his granddaughter, Brooklyn; his niece, Tiffany Hillmon (Michael); his nephew, Thurston Hillmon, Jr. (Jessica) and a host of additional nieces and nephews.
