Obituary

We never truly value a moment until it becomes a memory. Aunt Pauline understood this implicitly, living as a testament to the profound truth that happiness is a choice. This does not mean she simply pretended to be happy or denied her own pain. Rather, she recognized that while we cannot always control the hardships life brings, we retain complete control over our response to them. Every day, we must choose whether to feed peace and gratitude or resentment and fear. Over a lifetime, these daily choices compound. For many, that realization comes far too late, but Pauline made it the very foundation of her existence.

She was, unfortunately, no stranger to profound tragedy. Over the years, Pauline endured the heartbreaking loss of two husbands, survived breast cancer, and suffered a devastating car accident that left her nearly paralyzed. Later, a terrible fall shattered the bones in her legs, prompting doctors to warn her that she may never walk again. Yet, exactly as she had done so many times before, she answered devastation with steadfast determination. Defying all medical expectations, she willed herself through rehabilitation and was walking again within six months.

Pauline did not just recover; she used her restored strength to serve others. She filled her days with tireless volunteering, offering her time to help her community and those in needs. Every morning, at 6:30 AM sharp, she would begin her daily rounds through her apartment building, knocking on doors simply to check on her friends and neighbors. She was a steady guardian to everyone around her. As we say goodbye today, let us honor Aunt Pauline's beautiful legacy by embracing her courage. Let us choose, just as she did, to never let tragedy dictate the terms of our lives.
