Maryanna Florence
Hall
Oct 27, 1951 — Feb 10, 2023
Maryanna Florence (Barb) Hall closed her eyes for her most peaceful nap ever on February 10, 2023, after a long battle with an assortment of health challenges.
Maryanna was born on October 27, 1951, in Galveston County as the long awaited, highly anticipated only child of Fred and Minnie Ellen Barb. She spent her entire life in Texas City and was a proud member of the Texas City High School Stingaree Class of 1970. She dabbled in nursing school but it became a dream deferred. In early adulthood, Maryanna joined her cousin Edward Hunter at SCCA events, and it was there she met her future husband, racecar driver Jim Hall. They were married April 15, 1978, and settled down in Katy in the spring of 1979, where she lived for the rest of her days. She worked in the cafeteria for Katy ISD for years before transitioning to being a pharmacy tech, which she did until she retired in the early 2000's.
Maryanna and Jim had 2 kids and their activities influenced hers. Her net was cast wide and so many people have wonderful stories of her big smile and big glasses at all the different things she gave her time to. She was very involved with the Harris County Republican Party (and even scored an invite to Bush Senior's inaugural ball!), community activities in the neighborhood, swim team, girl scouts, little league baseball, band, and winterguard. She didn't always know what she was doing, but she was always willing to show up and fake it till she made it.
After she retired, Maryanna started to face one health challenge after another. In 2017, she had a stroke and needed open heart surgery. These dealt a brutal blow to her already diminishing mobility. She fought more battles than anyone can count. In 2021, she was moved into a full-time facility where she could receive the care she deserved.
Maryanna was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Minnie Ellen, and her cousins Mary Evelyn Willman, Eric Willman, and Linda Hunter. She is survived by her husband Jim, son Bernie and his wife Katy, their four children Natalie, Isaac, Trinity, and Martha, daughter Susan and her husband Sheldon, their four children Cherie, Owen, Eli, and Roman, and several Hunter and Lege cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, March 31, 2023 at 11am at St. Peter's United Methodist Church (20775 Kingsland Blvd. Katy, Texas 77450). In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Citizens for Animal Protection or the animal shelter of your choice as Maryanna was a huge believer in "used dogs" and cats of all kinds.
Arrangments have been entrusted to Claire Brothers Funeral Home, 7901 Hillcroft Street, Houston, Texas 77081.
