Obituary

Lucille is survived by her son, Glen Farber and wife, Barbara; daughter, Mary Cason and husband, Gary; grandsons, Bryce Farber and wife, Alyssa, Connor Farber and wife, Melissa; five great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was proceeded in death by her husband of 71 years, Charles and eight siblings of which she was the youngest.

Born March 21, 1926, Lucille grew up in Rosebud, Texas. She graduated from Rosebud High School in 1943. Following her graduation from high school, Lucille moved to Houston where she attended Massey's Business College. She met her future husband, Charles, in 1947 and they were married in August of 1948. After graduating from business college, she worked for ten years in a clerical position for W.R. Zanes and Company. She ended her career three months before the birth of her first child.

Lucille was a homemaker and raised two children, Glen and Mary Elizabeth (Libby). She was very involved with both children, serving as a tireless supporter at various activities and events. She served as a cub scout den mother, PTA president, children's ministries coordinator, third grade Sunday School teacher for twenty years, United Methodist Womens Society president, Voyager Sunday School officer, Shepherds Ministry service group, and many others.

Lucille was not an athlete and never played any sports, but having grown up in a family steeped in its love for sports of all kinds, she chose baseball as her favorite sport. She loved the Astros. For decades she listened to the games on radio play-by-play or watched on TV after they got cable. She knew all about the players through the years. The world series victories sent her over the moon!

Having grown up on a farm, Lucille was familiar with gardening. She and Charles had a large garden for many years. She was regularly seen by her neighbors watering, hoeing, pulling weeds, and picking produce. She frequently shared tomatoes, okra, beans, and other vegetables with friends and family. She was also famous for her wonderful fruit jellies.

Lucille was passionate about her family. She regularly spoiled them with her delightful cooking and holiday dinners. She also baked and cooked for others and considered it a blessing to serve others in their time of need.

Lucille and Charles were longtime members of Lakewood United Methodist Church. They were part of the Mead Sunday School Class and served as greeters for many years. It was likely that the first people you saw when you came to church on Sunday morning were Lucille and Charles, welcoming you with a handshake or a hug and definitely a smile.

Lucile was admired and loved by many. She was a kind, charitable, loving person who deserved the 97 years she was given. Her calm and gracious nature will be missed.
