Larry Joseph
Brown
Mar 5, 1941 — Jul 23, 2024
Larry Joseph Brown was born on March 5, 1941, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at Saint John's Hospital and passed away peacefully in Houston, Texas, on July 23, 2024, after several years of struggling with the progression of dementia. His parents were Doyle Herman Brown, his mother Josephine Crisp, and his stepfather Jack Bunker.
In 1959, Larry graduated from the original Central High School in Downtown Tulsa. Larry then attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, where he was in the School of Architecture where he pledged Sigma Chi Fraternity. He was taking elective courses in Accounting and setting the curve for the University, so his Dean convinced him to change his major to Accounting. He graduated in 1965. Larry married Judith James Brown, also from Tulsa, during college, and their daughter Laura Leigh was born. After college, Larry went to work for Herb Klein, CPA, as an accountant doing audits. Seven years after Laura was born, Lance Joseph Brown was born.
During his eleven years working as an accountant, Larry was always decorating friends' houses for free. Larry's friends convinced him to open his own business, thus, Design Interiors, Inc. by Larry J. Brown was opened in 1975 at 61st and Sheridan. Larry was well known for his expertise in design through the years. He worked alongside several builders, winning many awards during The Tulsa Parade of Homes. His contributions to the community through his work and his enjoyment in doing so were significant and will be remembered.
On October 14, 1988, Larry married Lady Dalton Cortner at Harwelden. They were married by Reverend Deane K. Lierle of Trinity Episcopal Church. The Earl Clark Band played their special wedding song, "Stand By Me." Larry and Lady enjoyed many years of traveling, dinners with friends, having Christmas parties, Broadway in New York, and many more adventures. Larry will be remembered for his jubilant personality, his love of all things sweet (often skipping his entree and moving straight to dessert), a testament to his joy and passion in life, his love of dancing, and his excellent eye for architectural and interior design.
Larry is survived by his wife of almost 36 years, Lady D. Brown; daughter, Laura, and husband, Ross Tyrrell Eastman of Houston; son, Lance Joseph Brown of Tulsa; grandson, Ross Tyrrell Eastman, Jr. and wife, Bess of Washington, D.C. and granddaughter, Alexandra Leigh Eastman of New York City. Larry is also survived by sons, John C. Cortner, Tulsa, Tyler W.M. Cortner and wife, Ingrid and their two children, Franklin Louise Cortner and Dalton Refael Cortner of Houston.
A Memorial Service officiated by Father Lee Domenick for Larry will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 21st, 2024 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 501 S. Cincinnati, Tulsa, Oklahoma. There will be a reception at the church following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, Iron Gate, or the charity of your choice.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Claire Brothers Funeral Home, 7901 Hillcroft Street, Houston, Texas 77081.
