Aug 31, 1956 — Feb 11, 2023
Kathy Sue Evans, age 66, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2023 after a two year battle with cancer. Born on August 31,1956, in Mullens, West Virginia to Hersie and Jean Phillips, she graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1974, earned her bachelors degree at Concord University in 1985, then went on to receive her masters degree in education from Texas Women's University in 1994.
Kathy shared a 38 year marriage with the love of her life, Sam. They moved from West Virginia to Texas after their wedding on May 31,1986. Their love was one for the ages, rarely apart and most often enjoyed spending time with each other and the children they were blessed with, Deidra and Trey. Kathy was a devoted mother whose love was unwavering and unconditional. She was promoted to Grammy in 2007 and was lucky enough to have 4 granddaughters: Ava, Ella, Alyssa and Evalyn. She loved living close to her girls and treasured the time she was able to spend with them. Her family was her whole world.
Kathy used her God given talents and gifts to teach children, passionate about public education, and poured her heart and soul into the lives of the students she taught for 26 years. She taught multiple grades and worked in several school districts throughout West Virginia and Texas, retiring in March 2021 from Kleb Intermediate in Klein ISD.
Kathy is preceded in death by her parents, Hersie Phillips and Jean Annabelle Honaker, and sister, Penelope Ann Phillips.
She is survived by her husband, Samuel Sands Evans Jr.; her children, Deidra Riane Lee (Married to Thomas Lee) and Samuel Sands Evans III (Married to Gretchen Gupton); her grandchildren, Ava Elizabeth Lee (15), Ella Katelyn Lee (14), Alyssa Riane Lee (11) and Evalyn Grace Lee (7). She is also survived by her siblings Terry Phillips, Sheryl Phillips, and Kim Castanon.
