Obituary

Elizabeth Phelps Bill Gross of Katy, Texas passed away peacefully at home on March 23rd, 2023, at the age of 74.  Elizabeth was born in Fall River, MA as the daughter of the late Lt. Josiah Davisson Wilson Bill and the late Elizabeth Phelps Barnum Bill Curtis.  In addition to her parents, Elizabeth was predeceased by her beloved brother, Lawrence Wilson Bill.

Called Betsy by her family and friends, Elizabeth is survived by her brother, Josiah Davisson Bill and her children, Catharine Davisson Gross, Margaret Hunt Gross Lacerte and John Mason Gross III and her four grandchildren, Lindsay Caroline Dawson, Caitlyn Gross Bucklin, Evelyn Sarah Gross and John Mason Gross IV.

While raising her family, Betsy was an avid reader, tennis player, sailor, and gardener.  For many years, she volunteered for the Northwest Houston Women's Tennis League while coaching and teaching her children how to play tennis themselves.  On the weekends, the Gross family would spend time sailing on Lake Conroe and volunteering to found and build River Road Yacht Club which later became the Conroe Yacht Club.

Once her children were grown, Betsy spent most of her time working for HP in Houston and tending to her garden.  Known for her green thumb, Betsy loved helping her neighbors with their landscaping and, after her retirement from HP, was often found outside enjoying a book on her patio with her dogs Katie and Sam.

Betsy spent her final years as a resident of Sunrise of Cinco Ranch where she enjoyed telling stories of her youth and sharing pictures and anecdotes about her children and grandchildren.

In accordance with Elizabeth's wishes, there will not be any services.  There will be a private scattering of her ashes at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The Barbara Bush Branch Library of Harris County Public Library - https://www.hcfol.org/

Arrangements have been entrusted to Claire Brothers Funeral Home, 7901 Hillcroft Street, Houston, Texas 77081.
