January 5, 1925, Edward Austin Phillips and Arnetta
Kelley Phillips introduced their fifth of seven children, Eddie Kate.

Eddie grew up in the Simsboro Community near Teague, Texas. After graduating from Prairie View A&M she taught school in Vicotria, Texas. She married James Wallace and moved to Los
Angeles. Later she married Joseph Smith. She retired from the United States Postal Services as a postal supervisor.

In 2008, she relocated to Houston to be near family. Eddie rejoined Ebenezer United Methodist Church where her parents were members. She was a member of the Senior Visionaries and choir. Eddie loved to play tennis, bridge, dominoes, the horses and watching sports! She loved family!

Eddie is preceded in death by her parents, husband Joseph T Smith, brother Dr. Earl Phillips, Sr., sisters Myrtle Phillips, Elois McCoy, Janie White, Juanita Alford, Joyce Lockley, nephews Earl Phillips Jr.,
Arthur McCall, Jr., niece Carol Coe. Eddie love and memory will be cherished by: nephews Thomas McCall, Gary (Yolande) McCall,
Phillip Thompson, Welby Lockley; nieces Betty Phillips-Herrera, Cassandra Lockley, Acquanetta McCall, and a host of cousins, great nieces and great nephews.
