Obituary

Betty Sue Beal passed away peacefully January 19, 2024.  Betty Sue was born and reared in Driscoll, Texas.

After graduating salutatorian of her high school class, she attended and graduated from Texas A&I University in 1941.  Betty Sue became a home economics teacher after graduation but soon married Russell Belflower in 1942 and left Texas for Russell's U.S. Army assignments in the Midwest and California during WWII.  After the war, they settled in Houston to make their permanent home.  She worked for The Humble Company for a number of years until she began her starring role as "Mother" to her two children, Rusty and Pam.  Relishing the role as a stay-at-home mom, Betty Sue worked as a room mother, boy and girl scout leader, beautiful seamstress, wonderful cook and fabulous entertainer. She also belonged to several women's organizations including The Houston Garden Club, SPE women's auxiliary and The Engineers Club.

In 1966 Betty Sue enrolled in The University of Houston to obtain her elementary teaching certification.  Becoming a single mom in 1967, she was offered a position at Underwood Neuhaus in the bond department.  During this period, she was courted by Lou Beal, a lifelong friend.  They were reintroduced by their respective mothers and they married in 1969 enjoying a wonderful, fun life together moving to Dallas, New Orleans, Odessa, Shreveport and back to Houston.  She worked in all of these cities in banking and even as a personnel agent.

Lou was on the Texas A&I alumni board, and he and Betty Sue traveled several times a year to Alumni events all over Texas.  They stayed involved with fellow A&I alumni until Lou's death in 2007.

Betty Sue was preceded in death by parents Harry and Sue Lee Rosamond, brothers Jack and David Rosamond, daughter Julia Beal Barker, grandson Blakely Thompson and the love of her life, Louis N. Beal, Jr.  There were so many aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends she so loved along her long road of life.

She is survived by her son, Rusty Belflower (Simone); daughter, Pamela Thompson (Archie); daughter, Holly Beal Reames (Michael); grandchildren, Kevin Diltz, Matt Belflower (Cindy), Kelsey Belflower, Patrick Belflower (Tanya), Katelyn Meyer (Todd), Evan Thompson (Kaitlyn); great grandchildren, Alexander Diltz, Madeleine Diltz, Evelyn Meyer and Blakely Meyer.
